A one-day Outdoor Pursuits First Aid course that fulfills the required standards for outdoor instructors working at on-site programmes. Completing this training successfully will validate the following National Governing Body Awards:

Mountain Training – Climbing Wall Instructor, Climbing Wall Development Instructor,

British Canoeing – Paddlesport Leader Award, Bellboat Helm,

Course Curriculum

  • Roles and responsibilities for first aid,
  • First aid equipment and record keeping,
  • Incident management,
  • Calling for appropriate help/rescue service,
  • ABCD primary survey,
  • Treatments for unconscious/not breathing,
  • Treatments for bleeding/shock,
  • Recognition and management of life threatening illness,
  • Recognition and management of drowning/cold water shock/hypothermia,
  • Age awareness for vital signs/CPR/bleeding,
  • Treatment of minor injuries, e.g. small cuts, bruises, minor burns, etc.

Assessment Standards

Students are assessed by means of practical observation, verbal questioning and open response paper.

Certification

Students completing the assessment standards for this training will be awarded with a ProTrainings Outdoor Pursuits First Aid Certificate that is valid for 3-years.  Under the current guidelines it is ”strongly recommended” that first aid trained staff attend a half-day update every 12 months – before completing full re-qualification training at the three year point.
