Activity First Aid – 16 Hour Course

A 2-day training course that fulfils the requirements for activity instructors who require a specific 16 hour activity first aid course. It also meets the standards for members of the Institute of Outdoor Learning who require a activity first aid qualification.

Topics covered

Students will be given the knowledge such as what are the roles and responsibilities of the first aider in the outdoors, how to assess an incident and recognising signs and symptoms of injury and illness when working out of doors as an award holder. Students will also cover the key first aid skills in CPR and use of an AED and assisting a casualty who is suffering from major injury and illness such as chest injuries, spinal injuries, hypothermia and anaphylaxis when leading or supervising activities.

Assessment method

Students are assessed by a practical demonstration, oral questioning and completing a multi-choice question paper.

Upon successful completion each student will be awarded the QNUK L3 Award in Activity First Aid (RQF) that is valid for 3-years.

Under the current guidelines it is ”strongly recommended” that first aid trained staff attend a half-day update every 12 months – before completing full re-qualification training at the three year point.
