Moving & Handling – Trainer – Emergency Services Sector

A fully regulated Level 3 Award in Moving & Handling Key Trainer qualification that is recognised by The Office of Qualifications and Examinations in England, the Welsh Government Regulator Qualification in Wales and the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment in Northern Ireland. Those successfully completing this training & assessment course, will ensure employers fulfill the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act, Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 as amended 2002, and the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 in moving & handling operations. This qualification is for those wishing to teach moving and handling techniques within a Emergency Services setting.

Who should attend

This programme of instruction is for suitable trainers already holding a recognised teaching & training qualification who wish to train others within their organisation who also hold an operational qualification, such as but not limited to: Paramedic, Ambulance Technician, Ambulatory Assistants, Private Ambulance Technician (Undertaker), the Fire & Rescue Services or holders of the Voluntary Rescue Services, Casualty Care Certificate or other Pre-Hospital qualifications listed on the RCS PHEM.  Candidates attending are expected to perform a range of manual handling tasks throughout the training including utilising a range of ambulatory devices found on frontline Ambulances, including the scoop stretcher, long board, carry chair, ambulance stretchers, wheel chair, vac mats, lifting cushions, banana boards, slide sheets and pat slides. Candidates are also required to demonstrate teaching & assessing techniques on the last day of the programme. Therefore students are required to be physically able to perform & teach these tasks, throughout the programme.

Where & When?
Our tutors will come to your operational base utilising your own Ambulances or we can supply either a Mercedes or Renault EMS truck from our fleet if required.
We also offer this qualification at our own operational centres in Cardiff & Manchester, see below for open course dates.


Students must be aged 18 years plus with level 2 literacy skills at the course start date. Additionally students will be required to demonstrate a range of moving and handling techniques and should therefore be physically capable of doing so and hold a recognised teaching & training qualification such as the Level 3 Award in Education & Training. Students are required to be physically able to perform all practical elements listed above. The aim of this qualification is for those acting in a supporting role such as frontline managers and supervisors who then wish to train your organisations staff in accordance with the above Acts and Regulations.

Students are assessed for this qualification using the following methods:

> Multiple-choice question paper

> Practical observations including teaching practices

> Portfolio of evidence including reflection of own and peer teaching

Demonstration of teaching

Students are required to deliver a range moving and handling sessions on the last day of the programme, followed by an evaluation of that delivery. All teaching materials are supplied for this course and for on-going in-house training delivery post course to successful students. Successful completion this programme would allow for the delivery of in-house moving & handling operations training within a Emergency Services setting.

We will deliver this training at your UK mainland venue utilising your own ambulances & equipment for up to 8 students for just £1999.99. This fee is fully inclusive of all training, assessments and certification to those students successfully competing the course. This fee also includes a single trainer pack for your organisation at no extra cost.

We are able to supply a fully kitted EMS truck from our fleet for your training where operational demands to your service demands for an additional fee. Please contact us for prices.

Suitable trainers may enrol on our open course programme and will be charged at £599.99 per person when attending our training venues in either Cardiff or Manchester.
