Moving & Handling Trainers Course – Emergency Services Sector

A fully regulated Level 3 Award in Moving & Handling Trainers qualification that is recognised by The Office of Qualifications and Examinations in England, the Welsh Government Regulator Qualification in Wales and the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment in Northern Ireland that fulfills the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act, Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 as amended 2002, and the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999. This qualification is for those wishing to teach moving and handling techniques within a Emergency Services setting.

Who should attend

This programme of instruction is for suitable trainers already holding a recognised teaching & training qualification alongside an operational qualification, such as Paramedic, Ambulance Technician, Ambulatory Assistants, Private Ambulance Technician (Undertaker), Fire & Rescue Operatives and the Voluntary Rescue Services. Candidates are expected to perform a range of manual handling tasks throughout the training, including using and lifting a range of ambulatory devices including the scoop stretcher, long board, carry chair, ambulance stretchers, wheel chair, vac mats, lifting cushions, banana boards, slide sheets and pat slides. Candidates are also required to demonstrate teaching & assessing techniques on the last day.

Where & When?
Our tutors will come to your operational base utilising your own Ambulances or we can supply either a Mercedes or Renault EMS truck from our fleet if required.
We also offer this qualification at our own operational centres in Cardiff & Manchester, see below for open course dates.


Students must be aged 18 years plus with level 2 literacy skills. Additionally students will be required to demonstrate a range of moving and handling techniques and should therefore be physically capable of doing so and hold a recognised teaching & training qualification such as the Level 3 Award in Education & Training. Students are required to be physically able to perform all practical elements listed above. The aim of this qualification is for those in a supporting role such as managers and supervisors who then wish to train your organisations staff in accordance with the above Acts and Regulations.

Students are assessed for this qualification using the following methods:

> Multiple-choice question paper

> Practical observations including teaching practices

> Portfolio of evidence including reflection of own and peer teaching

Demonstration of teaching

Students are required to deliver a range moving and handling sessions on the last day of the training, followed by an evaluation of that delivery. All teaching materials are supplied for this course and for on-going in-house training delivery post course to successful students. Successful completion this course would allow for the delivery of the suite of QN moving and handling qualifications via our centre.

This fee is fully inclusive of all training, assessments and certification to those students successfully competing the course. This fee also includes a single trainer pack for your company at no extra cost.
